An international delegation of 20 influential opinion leaders
These key influencers, from China, Korea, Japan and the USA, represented major business and mainstream daily newspapers, such as the Mainichi Shimbun, The Nikkei and the Senken Shimbun in Japan, the Korea Economic Daily and JoongAng Ilbo in Korea, as well as China Radio International, the only Chinese national radio station to broadcast programmes worldwide.
Editors and journalists from influential fashion and design magazines in the same four countries also took part in the programme. Renowned bloggers, stylists and fashionistas from the fashion, lingerie, interior design and jewellery worlds were part of the delegation, as was the Vice President of the China Fashion Association.
Paris – the world’s design show capital
Recognised as the world’s top tourist city, Paris Region is also the leading business tourism destination, with almost 400 trade shows, 1,000 congresses and 2,900 other events each year.*
An influential economic hub within Europe, Paris Region has a highly creative, vibrant, fashion and design sector. Paris is the only city in the world to bring together such a large grouping of top international design shows in the same week: Bijorhca, Maison&Objet, Salon International de la Lingerie & Interfilière, Who’s Next and Premiere Classe.

The journalists and influencers were first invited to a reception at the Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild on Friday 22 January, hosted by Jean-Yves Durance, Vice President of Paris Region CCI, and John Shaw, President of the Comité des Expositions de Paris, attended by, among others, David Douillet, Deputy and Vice President of the Paris Region Permanent Commission, Jean-François Martins, Deputy Mayor of Paris responsible for Sport and Tourism, Agnès Romatet-Espagne, Director of the Business and International Economy Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, Michel Dessolain, CEO VIPARIS, Olivier Mellerio, Chairman of Promosalons, Thierry Hesse, Chairman of Unimev, Daniel Wertel, Chairman of the French Federation of Women’s Ready-to-Wear (FFPPF) and senior executives from French trade show organisers.
The weekend of 23/24 January was devoted to visiting the fashion, interior design and home decoration shows, all leading trends indicators for professionals from around the globe. Hosted by the shows’ directors – (Philippe Brocart for Maison & Objet, Marie-Laure Bellon for the Salon International de la Lingerie and Interfilière, Xavier Clergerie and Boris Provost for Who’s Next and Premiere Classe, and Richard Martin for Bijorhca –, they visited the trends areas and attended a number of exclusive events, including catwalk shows and cocktail receptions.
On Monday 25 January, the delegates had a chance to experience first-hand Paris Region’s wealth of creative talent and French design know-how, with a unique programme of meetings and tours, including a presentation of the Comité Colbert by Elisabeth Ponsolle des Portes (Executive Vice President), an exclusive visit to the Hermès workshops in Pantin hosted by Guillaume de Seynes (Managing Director), a guided tour of the Maison Delisle showrooms by the company’s CEO, Jean-Michel Delisle, and a visit to the Maison Mellerio dits Meller and its historical archives, with commentary by Olivier Mellerio, President of the Fondation Mellerio.
And lastly, the group was invited to a special meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with Matthias Fekl, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, the Promotion of Tourism and French Nationals Abroad. He spoke of the French Government’s commitment to and support of France’s trade fair and exhibition sector, which generates revenues estimated at €7.5 billion each year. He underlined the importance of Paris in hosting major international events such as COP21, the UN climate summit, held amid tight security at Paris-Le Bourget Exhibition Centre in December 2015.
“We have been delighted to welcome these opinion leaders from all over the world for four exceptional days. With the help of our partners, we wanted to show them the quality and know-how that contribute to the attractiveness of Paris Region and make it a top international business tourism destination”, said Jean-Yves Durance, Vice President of Paris Region CCI, bringing the programme to a close.
