As part of the promotion of Maison&Objet, the US edition of which took place in Miami Beach from 12 to 15 May 2015, our Canadian office organised an innovative networking evening in the form of a masterclass. The event was a huge success both for the quality of the speakers and the audience.
Christelle Rey, head of Promosalons in Canada, and Index Design jointly organised a masterclass featuring renowned French designer Eric Jourdan, who also teaches at the Saint-Étienne school of art and design (ESADSE). This distinguished French designer was chosen to present the masterclass because of his remarkable career path and history of participating at Maison&Objet, which jump-started his career. This made him an ideal ambassador to promote the show’s advantages.
The City of Montreal’s Design Office was also a partner in the event because of its ties to Saint-Étienne. Both cities have been designated a UNESCO City of Design.
The evening focused on Eric Jourdan’s experience as well as on best practice in the design industry and was designed to bring together the sector’s most influential players.
The three partners/co-organisers gave a presentation on why the event is important to them, emphasising the highlights and innovations of Maison&Objet, which was the brainchild of Promosalons. Participants were free to ask as many questions as they wished during the course of the presentations. The event was attended by more than 100 local professionals, including designers and architects, design store managers, trade journalists and institutions. The success of this masterclass was a clear reflection of the trade’s need for this type of event and of its appeal.
By all accounts some 15 attendees went on to visit Maison&Objet Americas and some expressed their desire to attend the Paris session in September.
According to Christelle Rey, this kind of event could easily be replicated by other sectors and shows.
Feedback from Elodie Renaud, Marketing Director, Maison&Objet:
“This type of event epitomises Maison&Objet’s investment in the international arena. It brings together the design and lifestyle community, showcases the latest developments and fosters networking among participants. The support of an “ambassador”, namely a regular visitor with a strong reputation, boosts the show’s already high profile and creates a buzz in the community.”
